If you are new to reselling online, whether it be on Poshmark, Ebay, Mercari or any other place similar, you may have asked yourself what types of jeans sell best. This is something I had struggled with in the beginning of my reselling career. I was basically picking out jeans that I thought were cute, and guess what? Alot of those pieces are still sitting in my Poshmark closet gathering dust. I can’t even give them away! Once I learned the trick I am about to share with you, that changed for all of the new inventory I put in my closet.
I tend to have a pretty heavy addiction to Youtube. I will spend most of my nights in bed watching the best of Youtube, you know David Dobrik, Shane Dawson and Colleen Ballinger videos…Just to name a few, but every now and then I find myself on the “hidden” side of Youtube. You know, the “How To” video side. I won’t lie, I rarely watch how to videos, I am more of the type of person who likes to learn to do things for myself. However, one night after a pretty terrible week of reselling, I decided to take my chances and see what types of videos I could find to possibly lead me in a better direction. I ran into a video explaining how to use Google Trends to find products, keywords and the like. And then a light bulb went off.
I immediately opened up Google Trends on my phone and started typing in random categories from my Poshmark app. I figured I would look up what types of jeans sell best. Today I am going to share with you the results I found when I was searching the different types of jeans that Poshmark has listed under their Jeans category.
I will try to break everything down with screenshots to help those of you who have never heard of Google Trends. It’s pretty easy to use. Oh, and it’s free! I also realize that Google Trends does not cover only Poshmark. It covers all trending searches typed into Google, and your Poshmark listings are also found on the Google search, so this 100% applies. Just adding that for those who didn’t know.
First thing you want to do is go to Google Trends and type in the item you are looking for information on where I have typed the word “Jeans”. Remember you can search by country, time frame and category. So this image is for those want to know how to get started. Short and sweet. You’re welcome!
Now below you will see my search.
As you can see in the image above, I did a comparative search. I typed in the different style of jeans that are listed under the Jeans Poshmark category. Do you see what I see? Skinny Jeans are soaring above all other style of jeans. So, that can only mean one thing right? RESELL SKINNY JEANS!
I know you hear about the things that are “trending” and I have heard about relaxed straight leg, high waisted jeans alot. I decided to dig a little deeper and see if I added the word “High Waisted” next to each category what kind of results I would see.
Wow! Look at this graph. It’s kind of all over the place, right? Do you see how the high waisted skinny jeans is dropping, but the high waisted boot cut jeans is going up and they both meet? So that tells me that I could focus on either, but I will put more focus on the high waisted boot cut jeans. Which is good for me, because finding high waisted skinny jeans is a rare occurrence for me.
So from the information I have gathered about what types of jeans sell best, I will be sourcing skinny jeans and high waisted boot cut jeans on Poshmark. If you don’t trust this process then you can go to the Poshmark app and look up sold jeans. You will see for yourself skinny jeans and boot cut jeans are definitely selling in the recent solds. Just take a look at solds, that will tell you a lot as well.
As for using Google trends, you can gather so much good information on what to source, keywords to add to your Poshmark descriptions and most sought after brands. (I’ll save those topics for a later article.) I have become addicted to using it for my business, and I hope it helps you as well.
Also when you sign up for Poshmark using my code ‘Allybethany’, you can get a $5 credit to use to shop on Poshmark!
